Instructor: Helen Hiebert – Momigami, Illumination, and Inflatables

Day & Time: Saturday 8:30 AM, Class # 4

Class Size: 12

Cost:  $20

Description: Explore a variety of Japanese papers that are strong and translucent as we make momigami (crumpled paper). First, you will apply Konnyaku (a liquid starch) and knead it into a selection of small sheets. Next, you will create a large patchwork sheet of paper. This can be turned into one of three kite forms in Scott Skinner’s Sunday class, if you choose. In the afternoon once the papers have dried, you will use additional papers to create an inflatable structure and illuminate it with a battery-operated tea light. This technique is versatile in terms of scale and shape. Helen will show examples of other forms that can be created.

What to bring: Pencil, scissors, ¼” glue brush, craft knife and a small cutting mat (9”x12”).

Experience level: Beginner and up
