Instructor: Ron Ortega – Fractured Wedge Mandalas
Day & Time: Friday & Saturday 8:30 AM, Class #6
Class Size: 15
Cost: $95.00
Description: Students will design a basic to complex motif that they will turn into a
round, flat kite with long tails. Up to 4 colors will be provided. Students are also
welcome to bring 3-6 colors of their own to use for a $30.00 discount. Painting can be used for embellishment. This is a quilting style class and somewhat labor intensive; but, the results are worth the effort in a 2 day setting. I will consider motivated beginner kite makers on an individual basis with some sewing, quilting, and/or previous kite making experience being preferred but not necessary.
Students will learn an easy way to design a multi-sided, circular mandala/kaleidoscope motif without the need for computers or drawing programs. Students will also learn how to make odd shapes line up when sewn. A side note will instruct students on how to apply the concept to other shapes.
What to bring: Sewing machine, notions, weights, roller cutter or sharp bladed knife, long and short rulers, large cutting mat. Sharpies, markers or colored pencils that match your color choices will be necessary for designing your motif. A method for making consistent ¼” seams.
Experience level: Intermediate and up
